Governor Andy Beshear said his office is actively pushing for the Kentucky sports betting launch before the start of the NFL season. He made the statement ten weeks before the National Football League season opener. Also, the opener is a game between Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions.

According to bookie pay per head reports, the governor is happy with the pace at which regulators and other stakeholders were working on getting sports wagering launched in the state.

Regulators started preparing for the sports betting launch with meetings with operators, stakeholders, and their peers from other states in the last two months. According to Kentucky Horse Racing Commission chair Jonathan Rabinowitz, gaming officials from other states provided them with valuable insights regarding sports wagering best practices.

The KHRC is still working toward launching sports betting before the NFL betting season begins. The Kentucky Human Rights Commission (KHRC) plans to increase the headcount by 14. To examine and adopt the required clear and concise regulations, the KHRC scheduled a hearing in early July, according to Rabinowitz. The potential meeting date is next week. However, the state’s official job website does not presently feature sports betting-related opportunities.

Both Kansas and Arizona were able to get their sports betting systems up and running in record time. The state of Massachusetts officially legalized sports betting on August 10, 2022. On January 31, 2023, retail betting was legalized. On March 10, mobile betting was introduced. The best pay per head providers are also active in the state.

After sports betting was legalized in Kentucky in March, Caesars Sportsbook was the first operator to announce an agreement. Caesars has announced that it will operate its online betting app and retail sportsbooks at Keeneland and Red Mile Gaming & Racing in Lexington.
