Over-Under Betting Can be Profitable

Over-Under betting in the NFL. Bettors and the mainstream media love to talk about NFL spread betting as the marquee wager in sports. However, when it comes to nail-biting excitement, nothing beats NFL totals. NFL totals can create tense moments for bettors – and even bookies offering pay per head software – as teams march down the field into scoring range with an over or under on the line.

For that reason, anyone looking to learn how to become a bookie should be promoting NFL totals betting. The more totals your bettors wager on, the more exciting their NFL betting experience. And to ensure a bookie is prepared for AFC betting, here are the top over-under teams in that division.

Top Over Under Teams in the NFL AFC

Buffalo Bills 4-0-1 OU

Things looked pretty ugly versus the Tennessee Titans after an exciting start to their season. But the Bills still went over the total in Week 5 to make it 4-0-1 versus the total on the year.

Bottom line, quarterback Josh Allen has the arm, mobility, and enough accuracy to create big-play opportunities in Buffalo’s play-action offense. And, their struggling defense ensures every game is a shootout. For that reason, the Bills should continue to be a great over play regardless of their straight-up record.

That said, we expect bettors to be a bit more conservative when it comes to the Bills after their Week 5 showing on Tuesday Night Football.

Baltimore Ravens 1-4 OU

Oddsmakers likely expected the Ravens to put up a lot of points in 2020 after fielding the top scoring offense in 2019. However, the Ravens defense has stepped up in 2020, giving Baltimore a two-touchdown margin of victory with 29.8 points for and 15.2 points against. Considering the league is averaging over 50 points per game this year, it makes sense that Baltimore is cruising under the total.

The only high-powered offense the Ravens are scheduled to face over the next month is Pittsburgh. Therefore bookies shouldn’t be too worried if the over is a bit offside in Ravens matchups.

Tennessee Titans 3-1 OU

Everyone tried to deny that the Titans old-school, smashmouth style still has a place in today’s NFL. But the proof’s on the scoreboard.

The Titans are tough mentally, dominant on the ground, and efficient through the air. The latest result was a mind-boggling 42-16 blowout win versus the undefeated Bills, despite missing two weeks of practice.

Tennessee’s style brings expectations of low-scoring, clock-eating performances. But Tennessee currently ranks sixth in scoring and average 30.5 points per game. Bookies shouldn’t expect that to change.

QB Ryan Tannehill is proof that coaching can completely change a quarterback’s trajectory; he’s playing at an elite level. Add in second-year wideout A.J. Brown, and the Titans have a passing attack to offset teams trying to stop star running back Derrick Henry.

The only hurdle that could create unders for Tennessee is their defense. When looking at the roster the Titans have underachieved on that side of the ball. If the D reaches its potential, you could see a streak of unders.

Cleveland Browns 4-1 OU

Browns fans have hoped for a watchable product for decades. The time could finally be now. We expect bettors to get excited about a Browns team with offensive firepower.

The Browns shifted from a team forcing QB Baker Mayfield to live up to his top-pick pedigree, to a team that focuses on the run and use play action to pass. The Browns rank first in rushing yards per game and are fourth in points with 31.2. Coupled with a defense that gives up points but causes turnovers, they are in a perfect position to maintain their place as a top team to go over the total.

Las Vegas Raiders 4-0-1 OU

Like the Browns, the Raiders’ offense has clicked after early-season struggles. That was obvious in their shocking 40-32 upset over the Kansas City Chiefs as 11-point underdogs. Head coach Jon Gruden managed to turn a team with a near-flop at QB into an offense that ranks seventh in scoring at 30.2 points per game.

Bookies should expect the overs to continue. Outside of their Week 6 bout with Tampa Bay, the Raiders have a slew of opponents with defensive deficiencies on their upcoming schedule. Including, Cleveland, the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver, Kansas City, Atlanta and the New York Jets.
