With the existing bills, some may survive intact, but some, like SB310, may get ignored. Others may also end up being different from its original version. Its not uncommon to amend bills to allow the legislative body to pass the bill as a compromise to get the votes.

HB480 is a bill sponsored by Rep. Timothy Lang. It is currently in the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. However, there are two amendments previously added that the Representative wants removed. This is to be able to attract more votes and support from the Senate.

The first amendment to be removed, is to add a cap to the number of licensed operators’ brick and mortar stores. This is to appease legislators who fear having a betting shop in every corner. The other amendment to be removed is in-game wagers. According to the bill, Tier I (outcome related) wagers as well as Tier III (lottery-themed) will be allowed. But Tier II (in-play wagers) will not be allowed in brick and mortar stores. It will, however, be allowed in online sports betting.

These changes to the legislation may keep most legislators, regardless of party affiliation, happy. And if they are, then the bill that will legalize sports betting may finally pass. So far, legislations have been unimpressed with the bills on sports betting that have been put forward. And any chance a bill has to pass voting, authors will take.
