The UK Gambling Commission told William Hill to pay a record-breaking fine of £19.2 million. According to the commission, the gambling firm failed to comply with anti-money laundering and social responsibility rules.

According to pay per head directory sources, the fine is the biggest in UK Gambling Commission’s history. William Hill subsidiaries will pay the settlement. Thus, WHG Limited, williamhill.com operator, will pay £12.5 million. Mr. Green Limited, mrgreen.com operator, will pay £3.7 million. Lastly, William Hill Organization Limited will pay £3 million. The latter operates around 1,300 gambling facilities in Britain.

UKGC chief executive Andrew Rhodes said the commission’s investigation uncovered several failings at an alarming level. Also, the commission is considering suspending the company’s license.

According to the best pay per head providers, 331 consumers who had previously self-excluded with Mr. Green could bet with WHG (International) Limited due to insufficient safeguards. Allowing extensive deposits from consumers without doing proper AML checks led to the loss of £70,134 from one account, £38,000 from another in five weeks, and £36,000 from a third in just four days.

As part of a regulatory settlement, the Gambling Commission stated that the entire £19.2 million will be used for “socially responsible activities.” The £17 million lawsuit filed against Entain in August of last year was the previous record holder.

After fining two Kindred Group operators a total of £7.2 million, the commission settled with William Hill for its highest enforcement case. As you can see, knowing the rules should be part of what you need to know when learning how to become a bookie.
