Bookie betting figures from West Virginia suffered from a lousy week. Industry experts blamed the declining numbers to the temporary closure of two sportsbooks and sports betting app. As a result, the state’s total handle dropped and earned around $3.1 million from wagers.
The bookie betting figures was the lowest since early December, just before two casino sportsbooks opened to the public. On a positive note, sportsbooks brought more than $250,000 in the week ending March 9. Although the amount was a decrease from the previous week, positive revenue is good bookie news for the state.
Bookie pay per head experts analyzed the WV sportsbooks. In fact, they found out that Hollywood Casino Sportsbook earned the most for the state. Mountaineer Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook experienced lower revenues compared to the previous week.

According to the WV Lottery Commission, the total handle is $88 million with revenue of $8.7 million. Sportsbooks paid a total of $871,000 in taxes. Although sportsbooks reported positive revenues, their total handle suffered an 18 percent drop from the previous week.
BetLucky mobile sports betting app reported five days of operation for the week ending March 9. It earned $45,000 for both its casinos. Unless the state accepts more pay per head solutions, mobile sports betting will continue to struggle.
MLB and March Madness futures didn’t help improve bookie betting figures in West Virginia. It also didn’t help that two casino sportsbooks temporarily shut down. Wheeling and Mardi Gras also reported five days of operations for the week before they shut down. Their closure will continue until they resolve the contract dispute.
Industry observers are expecting numbers to improve with the start of March Madness. In fact, the next three weeks will see plenty of bets leading to the championship game. Make sure you place your wagers in one of the legal sportsbooks in the state.
